Legal Girl, ridden by Corey Brown, was simply sensational when she surged to a dominant 3-¼ length success over Richard Freedman’s Have A Nip in the Bald Hill Class 1 Handicap (1500m).

The performance came as no surprise to Conners, who expects his three-year-old to continue improving as she steps up in distance later this preparation. 

He announced plans to pursue a spring campaign with Legal Girl on the back of her second-up display.

The trainer intends to head towards the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Rosehill on September 30 or the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) at Caulfield on October 7 next start.

But Conners’s main goal for Legal Girl is later in the spring. 

“I have always had high aspirations of winning the Oaks with her,” Conners told Sky Thoroughbred Central.

“She is my favourite filly. I love her and have always had a great opinion of her.”

Legal Girl gave every indication she would relish the Oaks trip of 2500m with a classy display at Kembla. 

Brown needed easily rounded up the field when they entered the straight and was able to ease down Conners’ talented filly over the concluding stages.

Hav A Nip gapped her rivals to finish second while Anthony and Edwards Cummings trained Hierarchal did his best work late to round out the placings.
