FOREST FOR THE TREES
In response to `Looking for a View’ (Illawarra Mercury, September 16, 2017), a couple of questions for you. Did you consult with the residents whose views you were going to impact before planting?

Could you perhaps have chosen a lower growing species that did not impact views and thereby create a more balanced outcome?
Why should people who have paid a premium price for water views lose hundreds of thousands of dollars because of Bushcare Groups with agendas. These groups are always happy to plant out someone else’s water view but I bet they would never plant out their own water view if they happened to have one.

IT’S JUST NOT CRICKET
I have something to get off my chest regarding the Croome Cricket Oval in the Croome Sporting Complex at Albion Park Rail. As you are aware the Albion Park Rail Bypass will be passing right through the centre of our cricket ground.
I have been involved in The Rail Cricket Club for 39 of our 40 years as player, coach, board member, life member and as such have had a major role, with many others, in the development of this ground.
The turf wicket was installed by the cricket club as was the hill area, seating, fencing, sight screens the list goes on. The cricket club is very happy for the new road to go through the ground.
We see it as a very necessary development and we will get a brand new cricket ground in it’s place. What really sticks in my craw is that every time we see anything in the newspapers or on TV or communications from State Government or the main roads mob the ground is referred to as the AFL oval.
The name of the ground is The Croome Cricket Oval it is a 1st grade and representative cricket ground, we have had some very high level matches at the ground including South Africa, NSW and many other top matches.
The AFL only use it for junior matches and have only been there for a few years and have done nothing to enhance the ground. So please can we call it by it’s correct name.

FAIR WEATHER FRIENDS
The beloved Friday Crown Street markets were cancelled by text message at 9pm on Thursday night because the new management decided that the forecast bad weather, which has not eventuated, was a safety issue.
In the previous 15 years, through all of Wollongong's changeable weather events, the markets were never cancelled, as the original managers allowed stall holders to make their own safety and business decisions.
More importantly than this decision having deprived locals of the products, produce and community event we have come to rely on, it has deprived stall holders of income - particularly those like bakers whose goods were in the oven when the late night text was sent.

FOR THE RECORD
Again Adrian Devlin seeks to abrogate the sins of the Catholic Church by falsifying history via an easily sourced and false internet post regarding the Spanish Inquisition.
Pope John Paul II himself issued over 100 apologies, inclusive of the Inquisition atrocities (contained in Vatican documents), committed by Catholicism that included murder, rape, torture, sexual abuse, religious wars etc ad nauseum.
As for Galileo his proven findings on celestial matters proved indisputably that the bible is a fiction of human contrivance that no religious scientist can refute as is the work of Darwin who was not raised as an atheist as Devlin falsely asserted.
There are none so blind as those that cannot see.
