Carpenter played in the Matildas' 2-1 win over Brazil in front of a sold-out crowd of 15,089 at Penrith on Saturday, with a rematch to take place in Newcastle on Tuesday night.

Last week Football Federation Australia announced an historic collective bargaining agreement that will see the introduction of a minimum wage of $10,000 for the upcoming W-League season.

Their sold-out Brazil clash highlights the current boom the Matildas and women's soccer is enjoying in Australia at the moment.

But they're no Robinson Crusoe, with Australia's top women cricketers now fully professional, the introduction of the AFLW and the WNBL returning to television all part of the rapidly growing female sporting landscape.

Carpenter hoped the W-League pay deal would help propel soccer above those other sports - especially if the federal government is successful in their bid for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

"I think it's really great how far women's football is coming and it's a great thing that's come out to have a minimum wage for the league," she said.

"I think it's really good for the players and it's going to really boost the W-League this year.

"The W-League has come a long way and soccer can be one of the best sports in Australia for women and I think if we can keep growing the game, soccer will be the best sport.

"Especially if we can get this 2023 World Cup bid - I think that will be great for the sport."

Following her international duties, Carpenter will join Canberra United for the upcoming W-League campaign, which will begin against Melbourne Victory in Melbourne on October 28.

The 17-year-old spent her first two W-League seasons with the Western Sydney Wanderers.

But now the defender's looking for a new challenge and will try to help last year's minor premiers go two steps further after they were knocked out in the semi-finals.

In Matildas camp she's rooming with former Canberra United defender Caitlin Cooper, who she quizzed about United before she signed.

The Cowra product has already worked with Canberra coach Heather Garriock, through the latter's time as an assistant coach for the Matildas and the young Matildas as well.

She grew up doing athletics and was a promising sprinter, but chose to focus on soccer when she was 12.

"I just wanted something different, looking for some clubs to go to and Canberra reached out. It was just the one I chose," Carpenter said.

"I'm really excited to get on board with Canberra and looking forward to the season.

"I hope we can make the grand final and win the league that would be really exciting. I've actually never won a league before so I'd be really looking forward to that and hopefully we can do it."
