Tully charged through his preliminary rounds with wins over Windang’s Carlos Hernandez (31-14), Albion Park’s Ian Barrett (31-15) and Kiama’s Russell Campbell (31-13) last weekend. 

However, Wiseman Park-Wollongong City’s talented young bowler Dylan Skinner still stands in the way of being crowned Zone 16’s top club singles player.

Skinner outlasted Towradgi’s Peter Bonsor 31-24 in his opening game, before beating Warilla’s Matt Miles 31-21 in the quarter-finals. 

He then won through to the decider with a 31-19 victory over Collies-Orb bowler Glen Beveridge.

Tully will return to Kiama Bowling Club this weekend, teaming up with Woonona clubmate Dennis Ryan.

Ryan and Tully meet Figgy Bowlo’s Jeremy Barnes and Denis Cooper in round two on Saturday, the winner moving into the quarter finals on Sunday.

The final will also be played next week.

Entries are now open for the prestigious South Pacific carnival, to be played at Dapto Citizens.

A prize pool of $19,000 is on offer, with the singles champion picking up $2000, pairs winners claiming $1400 each and fours earning $750 each. A further cash prize of $1000 is on offer for the player of the carnival, who must play in all three competitions. Nominations close on Wednesday, November 15 and can be made via email to zone co-ordinator Brian Gibson at zone16match@gmail.com.

The carnival starts on Wednesday, December 27 with the fours competition, with the finals to be played on January 5.

Warilla will host the NSW five-a-side tournament in December. 

Allowed a marquee player, clubs will compete in all disciplines from singles to fours, with the pairs, triples and fours over 15-ends and a 105-minute time limit. 

The singles will be a 21-shot, four-bowl contest with no time limit. 

Dapto Citizens will their annual David Mair memorial triples event on Sunday.

Starting at 9.30am, there will be three games of 14-end, two-bowl triples.

A prize pool of $3000 if on offer, with $1200 for the winners, $800 for the runners-up and $600 for third-placed team.

In addition, there will be prizes for best cards during the day and lucky loser, as well as a one-end singles shoot-out.

The tournament comes as talented young bowler Dylan Skinner has taken over the co-ordinator and manager’s job at Dapto Citizens, replacing Brett Peiper, who moved to Albion Park.
