To be staged at Dapto Showground between December and February, the inflatable park – to be known as Waliscags Water Worx – would include an eight-metre high waterslide and several themed pools and aqua parks.
These include an octopus pool, “dino” pool, polar pool and “ice age double pool”, documents on exhibition say.
According to plans, the park would initially operate from December 1 to February 28 and would set up at the south-eastern part of the showground.
“The client and proprietor of Waliscags Water Worx have identified a shortfall in the region’s event tourism attractions and are seeking to provide a local event throughout the summer period for the Illawarra region and beyond,” the plans say.
Entry to the park would be free for spectators, but entrance to the pools would require a wristband to be bought online or at the park.
About 250 people would be able to use the pools at once (60 in the two bigger attractions and 40 in the smaller pools).
Wristbands would be sold for two-three hours sessions, the plans say, with about 400 spectators also allowed within the park area.
If approved “Water Worx” would run from 9am-5pm on weekdays, 9am-7pm on Saturdays.
A later start time of 1pm on Sundays, has been proposed to fit in with Dapto Markets.
It would require at least 15 workers – pool attendants, canteen staff and managers – to be on site at any time.
The proposal is on public exhibition through Wollongong council’s website until October 4.
