The South Coast Music Camp has involved talented public school students from the Illawarra, South Coast, Far South Coast, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes and Southern Sydney.
The intense but fun four-day camp culminated with a finale concert on Thursday night at the Tops Conference Centre.
Camp coordinator Kylie Morgan said experienced student musicians and vocalists enjoyed enhancing their skills through intense work with similarly talented peers, under the close tutelage of music teachers, tutors and industry professionals.
‘’The aim of the camp is to improve students’ overall musicianship and open up collaborative networks between like-minded students,’’ Mrs Morgan said.
‘’Many of the students who attend the camp come from regional and rural areas and they often don’t have the opportunity to play or perform in ensembles, groups or orchestras in their schools or communities.
‘’The camp gives them that opportunity and provides students with a supportive learning environment. Students not only make great music at the camp, they also make lifelong friends.’’
Some students have participated in vocal and music ensembles while others were placed in the concert band and took part in workshops on dance, and even the ukulele.
‘’There is a strong emphasis on improving musical expertise, and performance, and the final concert on Thursday evening is run with professional sound, lighting and staging.’’
