After careful planning and preparation construction of a unit development that started in Addison Street, Shellharbour Village on Tuesday and all the walls and framework is expected to be completed next Friday.
CLT has been emerging globally as a new method being adopted by timber construction industry. Hyperbuild’s Watermark development is the first time the revolutionary building method has been used in the region. The project is being watched closely by the construction industry around Australia.
The CLT timber construction system involves the use of large timber panels craned into place to quickly form the overall structure of the building. Multiple layers of sustainable tree farm grown fire resistant wood are then glued together at right angles under extreme pressure to create giant panels to be used as flooring, load bearing walls and ceilings.
Hyperbuild managing director Theo Pasialis said the introduction of CLT into residential development in the Illawarra was set to be a game changer. “CLT provides a completely different living experience to the traditionally constructed home in Australia today”.
Mr Pasialis said it provided a completely different living experience to that of traditionally constructed homes. He said CLT timber had internal and external visual appeal, operational energy efficiency and provided a pleasant and stable living climate.
He said it also had high fire and chemical resistance and thermal insulation properties.
Hyperbuild spent considerable time investing in a specialist team of architects and structural engineers and ensuring the total system and material used complies to all required national construction codes.
