Antoni Bukovac, 40, was charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm following the May 26 incident, in which a 42-year-old man was repeatedly struck with a tomahawk axe.
Court documents claim the victim was visiting a female friend’s house in Flinders Street when Bukovac knocked on the door of the apartment around 7.15pm.
The victim later told police he reocognised Bukovac, who he knew as ‘Booko’, and let him in after checking with his friend.
Prosecutors will allege the two men had a brief exchange of pleasantries before Bukovac allegedly got “a look in his eye” that the victim said made him think something bad was about to happen.
“As soon as he had that look, Booko raised his right hand and I saw a tomahawk in his hand,” the victim allegedly told police from his hospital bed that night.
“I said ‘what the f—k are you doing Booko?’. He swung the tomahawk down and said ‘do you want to f—k with me c—t’.”
The victim alleged Bukovac struck him in the arm, torso and “left arse cheek”.
The victim told police he managed to flee the house and walk to a nearby service station for help.
“I could feel the blood running down my arm and my leg the moment I got out of the unit,” he told police.
“I was struggling to walk.”
The court heard the man required multiple surgeries for his wounds.
Bukovac was subsequently arrested.
He will front Wollongong District Court in October to be formally arraigned and have a trial date set.
