Marjana Djakovic, who lives a few doors down from the mosque, is accused of making a series of derogatory comments in the presence of 20 children who were attending a Koran teaching session inside the Foley Street premises just before 4.30pm.
Court documents allege Djakovic entered the mosque through a side door and walked upstairs to a common room where she began swearing and yelling insults directed at the prophet Mohammed.
Her outburst caused a parent standing nearby to move the children away and alert the session’s teacher, who was in the prayer room.
The teacher approached Djakovic and asked her to remove her shoes as per Muslim tradition.
Djakovic initially refused, but then took them off, only to put them back on again.
The man asked her again to remove her shoes, allegedly prompting Djakovic to became aggressive and scream “I wanna talk to the person responsible….f—k Jesus, f—k Mohammed”.
The man stood in front of the children to protect them while reaching for his mobile phone to contact police.
It is alleged Djakovic swatted the phone out of the man’s hands while calling the group “towel heads”.
The man then tried to usher Djakovic outside, eventually picking up a broom for his own protection when Djakovic allegedly tried to punch him.
She left without further incident, at which time the man locked the door to the premises and contacted police.
Officers arrived at Djakovic’s house a short time later however she allegedly became aggressive when they attempted to arrest her and hurled a series of expletives at them before accusing the “those f—king towel heads” of assaulting her.
Police noticed Djakovic had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and smelt strongly of alcohol.
She was eventually taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with offensive conduct, assault and resisting arrest.
It is alleged she told police she had downed 10 drinks of straight Vodka before the incident, however claimed she’d done nothing wrong because the victim was a “Muslim c—t”.
Djakovic was refused bail in Wollongong Local Court on Monday on account of her poor criminal record, which included a prison sentence that was suspended on the condition she attend treatment for alcohol addiction.
The case will return to court on October 3.
