Leadership Illawarra Program mentees and mentors and JCI Illawarra MentorMe program participants gathered at the SMART Infrastructure Facility this month for a graduation .

The formalities at the University of Wollongong involved mentors from the business community such as Roy Rogers, Michael Bassingthwaighte, Graham Lancaster, Sharon Wingate, Les Dion, Bob Kotic, Joe Gaudiosi, Tracey Freeman, Eddy De Gabrielle, Kristen Green, Justin Placek, Chris Christodoulou, Marisa Mastroianni, Nicky Sloan and Jim Allan being acknowledged for their valuable contribution and willingness to share their knowledge and expertise.

The MentorMe program was developed by former JCI Illawarra president Jessica Saad and RDA Illawarra chief executive Debra Murphy has played an important support role since its inception.

“This celebration is a culmination of both groups of MentorMe participants,” Ms Murphy said.

But she said none of it would not be possible without the contributions, time, energy and insights of so many business leaders who were so willing to share what they know with their mentees. “Some mentors and mentees will continue their relationship beyond the MentorMe end, it is totally up to them,” she said.

The Leadership Illawarra Program has been very active in 2017.

Its participants were able to take part in the MentorMe program after a new partnership was formed with Junior Chamber International (JCI) Illawarra.

“The partnership was designed to strengthen the community leadership pool in the Illawarra as well as grow the mentor and mentee connections across the region,” she said.

“In my view, exceptional mentors can provide life-altering opportunities for our next generation of Illawarra leaders. I have no doubt the pool of Illawarra leadership talent will grow exponentially through this new partnership".
