NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to a Todd Street address about 10.35am on Tuesday.
Initial reports indicate a 50-year-old man has suffered burns to his arms, face and chest following an oil fire.
He has been taken by road ambulance to Wollongong Hospital.
Andrew, a resident of the Todd Street apartment complex, told the Mercury the man had “pretty bad” burns.
“He put some fat on the stove or something and went to sleep and when he woke up it was all on fire,” he said.
“He went to throw it out, instead of putting something on top of it. When he threw it out it just went all over him.”
Andrew said the man reportedly “got straight into the shower himself” before paramedics arrived.
“I only seen his hands and … it’s just blisters; it’s pretty bad,” he said.
More to come.
