This month, we're a wildcard heat for the Australian Poetry Slam (APS), which means we're sending slam winner to the state final in Sydney in October.

This is an 18+ event. 6pm, Jane’s Bar, North Wollongong.

Rock Photography Opening Night

So many big names in one room – 10 years of Wollongong’s music scene are on show one exhibition, Sound Exposure, at Moving Mountains Gallery (Crown Street Mall) in Wollongong.

Photographers Ian Laidlaw and Chris Frape have documented an array of concerts from Australian Idol star Shannon Noll to indie-rockers The Jezabels, local group Shining Bird and many more.

Route Dash Niner: Part 2

It’s a low-budget sci-fi film brought to the stage at Wollongong Town Hall until Saturday.

In October 2016, four friends discovered a strange signal coming from the deepest corner of the universe. They held a press conference announcing their intention to investigate this signal and bid farewell to their families. 

Now, a year later, we find our crew on the fringe of the known universe. And the closer they get to the signal, the further they stray from home.

Sculptures at Killalea

The Illawarra’s version of sculptures by the sea with 61 installations from well known artists to school collaborations.

Friday begins with a Warrigal Young at HeART Day for seniors. Other highlights of the 10-day art festival include a children’s day, a twilight market, live murals and a satellite exhibition.

Illawarra Polish Museum

The museum is holding it’s first art exhibition with the official opening on Friday from 5pm ($10 entry with light refreshments).

Nearly 200 paintings will be on show at the museum, which has been operating for over a year recording Polish settlement in the Illawarra.

Funds raised will go towards heritage projects at the museum.

Also open Saturday and Sunday 10am – 4pm, 143 Gipps Road in Gwynneville.

Clifton School of Arts

The Clifton School of Arts will be hosting the solo art show of Kerry Candarakis “Divergence’.

An abstract colourist Kerry’s work entertains a diverse range of subjects.

Primarily an abstract painter Kerry diverts and wanders into the realm of the real, and back to abstraction. She has a love of all things coastal, landscape and of nature, this is evident in her colour selection.

Friday to Sunday, 10am – 5pm. Official opening Saturday from 2 – 4pm with drinks.

Enjoy a memorable range of entertainment during the two-hour show, plus some up close and personal attention on stage with the boys.

SEVEN exhibition

Four artists of mixed media are holding their ninth exhibition at the Old Courthouse, Belmore Basin in Wollongong.

Watercolour artist Sue Luschwitz, inspired by botanical subjects, explores a variety of wet and dry techniques. Ceramicist Debbie Lausz will present a collection of sculpted "table gardens" with succulents adding form to these pieces. Mary Lou Reid's imaginative botanical shapes and birds capture her love of bright colours and her ceramic cylinders show her love for the Australian bush.

Mary Louise Wyatt expresses her love of nature in pen and ink, watercolour and prints. Mary Wingrave uses mixed media in response to the Australian landscape while Elspeth McCombe has created a variety of paintings using collage, and mixed medium.

Barrie Voorwinden continues to explore and photograph ancient Aboriginal rock paintings in the Kimberley.

It runs until October 2.

The Rhythms of Ireland

North Wollongong’s biggest music festival across two days at Stuart Park.
