In sixteen seasons he’s led the league in three-point shooting percentage five times. His career average of 42 per cent from beyond the arc puts him at the top of the NBL all-time list for players with more than 700 triples.
That’s before you mention the durability that’s seen him miss just one match en route to the 485 games he’s amassed since debuting with Adelaide in 2002.
His current unbroken streak of 219 games is the most of any active player. He’s yet to miss a game for the Hawks since joining the club in 2010.
It leaves him with nothing left to prove but – as he enters his 17th NBL campaign – the veteran sharp-shooter remains driven by the desire to bring a championship to the city he’s made his home.
“You’re desperate to win every year and I’d love to do it this year,” Forman said.
“It’s an amazing place and it’s probably something only the people who have lived here would understand.
“I’ve seen so many fans year to year and you watch their families grow up.
“I don’t think it happens as easily in a big city. It’s those people that you meet along the way that make it special and they’re the ones you want to win it for.”
Injury permitting, Forman will notch his 500th NBL game this season, which brings with it the inevitable questions about whether it will be his last.
Having recently became a father for the first time and started a full-time gig with Multi Civil and Rail, he’s preparing for life after basketball, but won’t rush a decision on his future.
“A lot of people keep asking me if this is my last year and I just say ask me again at the end of the year,” he said.
“Right now my body feels as good as it has for a while. I feel strong, I feel like my shot’s going down and that’s where I’m at.
“I’ve always been someone who can’t just be basketball-focused for 12 months a year. I’ve worked fulltime for MCR and I’ve enjoyed that.
“It makes you busier but it’s enjoyable and it gives you something away from basketball.
“I’ve enjoyed a long off-season to relax the mind and get away from basketball but I’ve had my time away now and I’m really excited for this season.
“I have a role that’s clearly defined in the team and, provided I stay injury-free, my focus is on playing well and contributing.”
Having gone made consecutive finals appearances the past two seasons, Forman is confident the Hawks can make the final leap to the championship dais.
“We know where we are as a team,” he said.
“We’ve had our identity building over the last couple of years where we run, we pressure, we play a fun exciting game of basketball.
“We know our roles, the new guys are finding theirs and I think we’ve had a good preseason. We come in, we go to work, we have our expectations within our group.
“Hopefully we’re more advanced than other teams but it’s about putting it out there on the floor.”
