The 12-year-old from Thirroul will star in the Australian musical Miracle City alongside ARIA Award-winning singer Missy Higgins, who is also making her professional musical theatre debut, at the Sydney Opera House production beginning next week.

Finn’s proud mum Monique said as soon as he was asked in the audition if he knew how to jump on a pogo stick his face lit up and gladly boasted about his record for consecutive jumps.

“He’d just done that maybe a week before so it was quite funny,” she said.

Set in the early 1990s at the height of televangelism, Miracle City tells the story of the Truswells – a family with a dream to build a Christian theme park.

Their patriarch, Ricky Truswell, is happy to go to extreme lengths in order to make the dream a reality. Finn plays the role of Mr Truswell’s son Ricky Bob – who does use the pogo stick on stage – though the young actor is not giving too much else away.

“Finn’s insisted I don’t read the ending, he said it’s ‘dark with a twist you will not expect,” Mrs Bradley said.

The musical was written in the 1990s by Nick Enright and Max Lambert and inspired in part by the US televangelists Jim and Tammy Bakker.

Higgins plays Southern belle Bonnie Mae Stackhouse, a drug-addicted single mother who has recently lost her daughter to child protective services.

For now Finn’s dreams is to become a famous actor or performer, “or a soccer player or a person who sets world records – like on a pogo stick”.

Miracle City is at the Sydney Opera House October 12 - 29.
