Peter Gould and John Jovcevski made their home green advantage count with three double-figure game wins to take out the Figgy Bowlo over 50s Warrigal Pairs crown.
Grade 5 bowler Gould and his top grade club-mate were the best of five unbeaten teams in the 32 team field to finish with three wins (+42) and collect the $1000 winner’s purse.
‘’We were in second spot heading into the third game and won that by 15 shots so we played well the whole day,’’ Gould said.
The Figgy Bowlo pair won their opening game by 13 shots, the second match by 14 and third game by 15 shots.
Helmut Schuster (Figgy Bowlo) and Warilla partner Peter Thelan were second on three wins (+30), with Peter Hughes (Engadine) and Robin Smith (Wiseman Park) third (three wins +24).
It’s a huge month for Figgy Bowlo with the club honouring its legendary clubman Greg Thurling with the $12,000 Greg Thurling Memorial 1-Day Spectacular on Sunday October 29.
Some of Australia’s best players including Jeremy Henry, Aaron Teys, Jono Davis, Tom Ellem and Neil Burnett along with Figgy’s Bowlo’s Bob Wilson are confirmed starters, with a few spots in the field of 56 still available. Contact David Kelly at Figgy Bowlo for details.
