Illawarra Diggers Aged and Community Care residence in Wollongong’s Northern Suburbs is looking for passionate, dedicated volunteers to join its team.
Lifestyle manager, Joanna Limpic, said there were volunteer opportunities for anyone who would like to share their skills, knowledge and time in a range of roles.
“If you have a skill you would like to share, or feel you would like to give volunteering a go, we would love to hear from you,” Ms Limpic said.
“Whether you have several hours a week or a couple of hours once a month it would be greatly appreciated.
“Volunteering gives people an opportunity to give back in a way which brings meaning to their lives, while instilling hope and a sense of joy and contentment to the lives of others.”
She said the role of the volunteer was to work with staff at the Corrimal complex to encourage residents to participate in a variety of social activities.

“Here at Illawarra Diggers, everything we do is centered around the care of our residents as their quality of life is our main priority,” she said.
She suggested volunteer roles could simply involve engaging with the residents in social discussion, reminiscing, discussing the local news, reading to a resident or helping them write a letter.
“It would be great if our volunteers could play an instrument or perhaps even give a gentle massage,” she said.
Other roles include helping with gardening or in the library, teaching the residents arts, craft, knitting, crochet, needlework, patchwork or quilting or driving residents to do their shopping or attend appointments.
Ms Limpic said the Diggers’ lifestyle team work hard to provide opportunities for leisure engagement and are always on the lookout for members of the community to join in.
“All of our volunteers are officially inducted into the team through a process of training and support.”
