“I still enjoy life, I still enjoy people and I feel pretty good,” he said.
“I feel very lucky.”
A photo of 100-year-old IRT resident Mr Findley has won the 2017 NSW Ministerial Advisory Committee on Ageing (MACA) Media Award for best image.
The photo, taken by former Illawarra Mercury photographer Kirk Gilmour, captures Mr Findley sitting on his amp playing his electric guitar in the gardens of his home at IRT Dalmeny.
“The photo was published in the Winter 2017 edition of The Good Life magazine,” IRT’s acting chief executive Sam McFarlane said.
Mr McFarlane said that Mr Findley was a professional musician and electrical engineer who developed Australia’s first electric bass guitar.
“The magazine shares remarkable stories about some of our 8000 residents and customers,” Mr McFarlane said.
“They’re remarkable not for their age, but for the things they do and have done throughout their lives.”
The annual MACA Media Awards aim to challenge negative stereotypes towards older people by highlighting examples of balanced and realistic media reporting on older people and ageing.
