Organiser Joshua Tree said it was not every day that a regionally first event like 'It's a Blokes Lunch' was held featuring guest panelists such as former Bachelor and Ninja Warrior Australia competitor Tim Robards, Special Forces commando and Australian Ninja Warrior Scott Evennett and a keynote address from the likes of Dr Simon Rosenbaum.
Mr Tree, of Better You Health Group, said the lunch at the Novotel Wollongong Northbeach was about promoting men’s health and encouraging men to get a check up and talk to other men about their health.
It is hoped to become an annual event where men can receive education, awareness and rehabilitation services for physical health issues such as prostate and testicular cancer, to mental health conditions and preventative health measures.
Mr Tree said the aim is to bring 400 local businessmen together to help raise awareness about men’s health and support allied health services for Illawarra men in need
Interest has been high in the lunch and ticket sales close on Friday December 27.
“70 percent of the room has already been filled and the event has gained support by several NRL clubs and Sydney FC,” Mr Tree said.
Keynote speaker Dr Simon Rosenbaum recently completed a charity bike ride that involved participants travelling 150kms a day for eight days from Broome to Perth to raise funds for the Black Dog Institute.
