She had been with family and friends looking for whales off the Five Islands last Sunday, but when they spotted a mother and calf heading south around Corrimal they headed up to take a look. What happened next she’ll never forget – and luckily for us she has shared her picture with Mercury readers.
“I was stoked with it,” Parisi, 22, said. “I’ve had some whales actually swim under the boat but I’ve never got a picture of them breaching before,” she said.
She used an “entry level” mirrorless camera with a 12-50mm lens, an estimated 200m from the whale.
Parisi goes out a couple of times a year looking for whales or dolphins, part of an abiding love of all sea creatures.
“With whales, I just love how big they are – but they’re also gentle,” she said.
