Over three days, the sounds of clinking beer steins and German polka music could be heard, as the Illawarra soaked up the Bavarian-themed atmosphere in celebration of a wedding held in Munich more than 200 years ago.
In October 1810, Munich citizens were invited to join the celebrations in the fields at the front of the city’s gates when Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen.
Kembla Grange festival-goers got into the spirit by taking part in various German-themed competitions, including sausage eating, strong man and strong woman and beard contest.
On Sunday’s family day, there will be fun for kids, including rides, a face painter and other party activities.
