Instead of reading published peer-reviewed studies that back up your views that children raised in same-sex parented families have poorer health and psychological outcomes,Bob Patrech (Illawarra Mercury, October 19),why not take yourself out of your comfort zone and make an effort to meet with same-sex couples and their children and see and hear for yourself how they are doing.

Apart from the inevitable blatant homophobia and cruel jibes from a minority of the population,you will more-than-likely find that same- sex families deal with the joys and tribulations of everyday life much the same as traditional families.
I should point out that the postal survey ha s nothing to do with children, it simply asks "should the law be changed to allow same- sex couples to marry?".
Irrespective of the outcome of the vote, same-sex couples will continue to successfully raise happy children. The sky will not fall in and you, Bob, and Adrian Devlin,will be left to live your lives without outside interference.

A MARKED DIFFERENCE
The business page, of the Illawarra Mercury (August 21, 2014), reported, “energy giant AGL will cut electricity prices by around 9 per cent following the scrapping of the carbon tax even though the company suffered a near 8 per cent decline in electricity demand”.
The same day under the heading “AGL betting on coal-fired power” the Sydney Morning Herald’s business news page, opened with the following statement, “Energy utility AGL expects coal-fired power stations will be the winners from the changing dynamics in the national electricity markets”.
Now fast forward to September 7, 2017, and the Daily Telegraph’s heading “AGL’s profits to double as energy company bosses’ salaries skyrocket”. The profits and salaries referred to in the article were; AGL’s expected profit of $1.24 billion and the Chief executives reported $6.9 million salary package.
To make a comparison between 2014 and 2017, I retrieved my electricity bills for the period 25 Jul 2014 to 22 Oct 2014 and my latest, 22 Apr 17 to 21 Jul 17.
2014 result: 408.30 less discounts and rebates 118.86 = $289.44
2017 result: 609.71 less if paid by the due date 076.61 = $533.08
Say no more.

COMPLETE TWADDLE
In response to the article by the CEO of the Climate Council, Amanda Mckenzie ‘Australians embrace the renewable future’ (Illawarra Mercury, Monday October 16, 2017), increasing evidence suggests most Australians are sick of subsidising renewable energy that is delivering unreliable electricity at greater expense.
As Professor Judith Sloan pointed out recently "Aid for renewable energy simply cannot be justified”.
But let’s understand, green is the new red. Global warming is the excuse that has brought back the commissars who love ordering people how to live, even down to the things they make and the prices they charge.
Marxists propagandist, agitator and organiser Vladimir Lenin would love the people who stuffed up our electricity supply.
Green power is expensive, unreliable and driving cheap coal-fired power stations out of business which will leave us dangerously short of electricity for summer.
If all this pain is supposed to reduce global emissions and save the planet then the results show it has been in vain, cost billions, placed people in energy poverty and destroyed jobs.
Making renewables work, tackling climate change and getting out of the coal industry is just complete twaddle.
