Hip hop collective One Dayers (Horrorshow and Spit Syndicate) will take over Wollongong Central’s roof space on November 26 to celebrate the end of the three-day event with live music, live graffiti and food stalls.
“It's such an awesome spot ... you can see these sweeping vistas of city rooftops, it’s kind of a really interesting perspective that some people may not have had the opportunity to know that it’s there,” festival director Simon Grant said.
The art festival will take on a digital flair for the first time this year with visitors able to create their own murals via virtual reality headsets to add a fresh perspective to the art experience.
Mr Grant said the concept was used at the “Heuristic” exhibition he curated at Wollongong Art Gallery earlier in the year to huge success.
Across the three days a collection of local, national and international artists will create striking murals within walking distance around Wollongong CBD – most reaching more than 10 metres in height and 20 metres long.
Wonderwalls first appeared in 2012 with nine walls dappled in paint across the city and has since seen a revitalisation of colour with many of the murals remaining year after year, plus others popping up in addition to the festival.
Notable artists who have added to the vibrance of Wollongong over the years include Rone, Beastman, York, Felipe Pantone, J2SKE, Krimsone, Mikey Freedom and Claire Hoxton.
Mr Grant said the artist’s brief was to create murals that resonate with the community’s current and future aspirations.
