The company is one of seven music, dance and theatre organisations to be given a boost by Create NSW – receiving $56,638 to take the play Letters To Lindy around the country.

Merrigong commissioned playwright Alana Valentine to create the work which explores the public’s fascination with Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton and based on actual letters sent to her during the 1980s.

It drew national attention last year in the lead up to it’s world premier at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre of which Mrs Chamberlain-Creighton and her partner attended.

The tour will take the production to 10 venues across the state and another nine venues around the country.

Create NSW CEO Michael Brealey said the grants were important to improve access to contemporary arts and cultural opportunities in regional areas.

“The cost of touring can often be prohibitive to regional organisations, both for venues and presenting companies,” Mr Brealey said.

“But sharing their productions across the state has a great benefit in strengthening local connections to arts and culture and ensuring that some of the state’s best work can be seen by more people.”

Company B was also awarded a grant to tour The Events by David Greig. It will travel to Tamworth, Lismore and Wollongong following a season at Black Swan Theatre Company in Perth.
