CityServe Shellharbour is heading to Bass Point Reserve to participate in a bush regeneration project.
The event will take place on Saturday, October 28 from 8am to 3pm.
CityServe is an initiative of the Christian Churches of Shellharbour City.
It is a collaboration of the churches, Shellharbour City Council, businesses and the community, with volunteers working to beautify public spaces and other areas.
Past projects have included volunteer work being undertaken at Warilla Pool, Ron Costello Oval, Lake Illawarra High School and the Shellharbour Aboriginal Community Youth Association.
For example, the Lake Illawarra High School project entailed building a bespoke outdoor learning facility specifically for students with special needs.
Leeanne Gill, CityServe advocate from Shellharbour Community Church said the bush regeneration project at Bass Point Reserve would entail volunteer work at six sites in the area.
Tasks will include painting, gardening, first aid and catering/service.
Volunteers can attend for some or all of the day.
“We’ll be painting the amenity blocks, fencing areas, restoring the picnic tables that have been damaged, and doing a lot of gardening and lantana removal,” Mrs Gill said.
“Normally we get about 100-110 volunteers.
“We welcome anyone from the community, particularly the Shellharbour and Kiama council areas to come up and join us.
“If anyone wants to come along they’re very welcome.
“Please come along. People can come at any time during the day, even if they just want to come up and have a look.
“We’ll be really blessed if they can help out, get their hands dirty and make the city look pretty.”
For the bush regeneration project at Bass Point, access is via Boollwarroo Parade, Shellharbour, not Killalea.
Organisers have asked participants to ensure they wear gloves, closed-in shoes, sunglasses and long pants.
They also requested volunteers bring sunscreen and a bottle of water. Barrels of water will be available on-site to refill your bottle.
Morning tea and lunch will also be provided.

Organisers have also said that if there is a total fire ban on the day they will not have access to Bass Reserve, and the event will therefore need to be rescheduled.
