Menopause The Musical: Women on Fire stars well remembered hostess of Sale Of The Century Victoria Nicolls – also a face seen on other television programs such as Prisoner, Echo Point and Blue Heelers.
These days the actress is heavily involved in children’s theatre but is excited to be back in the adult world, joining three other women in the musical parody which pokes fun at the change of life through hits from the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s.
“There’s lots of silliness and lots of songs and making people laugh,” Nicolls said.
“This is an interesting challenge, isn’t it, dealing with a subject like this because it’s kind of taboo in a way. But you kind of unite with a bunch of women and realise everyone goes through it.”
The actor admitted she didn’t have much difficulty when she went through the hormonal change but did feel a “deep sadness” as it signalled the end of an era with her body – “like a grief in a way”.
Nicolls said women in the audience will see themselves in the characters while the men in the audience will empathise having had a moment in life when they’ve had to “put up with” someone – a wife, mother, sister or friend – going through it.
Menopause The Musical, Anita’s Theatre in Thirroul on November 4 and Dapto Leagues Club on November 22.
