They were joined by volunteers from Lake Illawarra PCYC, the 2528 Project, Rotary and Scouts.
Shellharbour City Council staff were also on hand to clean up the 150 metre stretch of fence line on Lake Entrance Road, near the Shell service station.
Snr Const Higgins said about 16 volunteers helped clean up the area.
‘’It went really well. Everyone worked really hard to remove the graffiti and we cleaned up the area fairly quickly,’’ he said.
The clean up event was held ahead of Graffiti Removal Day, which is happening across NSW on Sunday, October 29.
This year local volunteers will be removing graffiti from three sites across Wollongong.
