The eager students have been busy setting up an art exhibition for themselves in a public gallery.
And the folk at Red Point Gallery in Wentworth Street, Port Kembla have happily turned over the space to the students for a showing on October 28-29.
‘’With our HSC art completed and sent off, it was time to show what is up and coming from the rest of the school,’’ art teacher Mel Lever said.
‘’Students from every year, 7 to 11, are directly involved.’’
The young artists hope people will come and fill out their ‘’gallery experience’’ – complete with comments, critiques and compliments.
Parents, teachers, friends and students of Warilla High will staff the exhibition on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 2pm. Entry to Red Point Gallery is free.
Meantime, Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts annual art exhibition opens at Project Contemporary Artspace in Wollongong on Friday night from 6pm.
The exhibition showcases the art of WHSPA’s Collective Class of 2017 year 10 auditioned students.
Art Collective classes run from years 7-10 and are made up of auditioned budding artists from all around the Illawarra.
Art teacher Saxon Reynolds said the Art Collective's aim was to foster students’ artistic abilities and give them the opportunity, materials and extension classes to pursue and develop their talents and understanding of visual arts.
‘’In the past, our students have gone onto study HSC art and been chosen for Art Express, and some have gone on to pursue successful careers in different fields in art,’’ he said.
‘’This class has been a great stepping stone for the students. And it culminates at the end of year 10 in an official art exhibition at a 'proper' art gallery, giving the students curatorial experience and a chance to express their art in a professional manner.’’
