It opened at 2.30pm on Friday.
“Bulli Pass is a major commuter link for motorists to travel between the Illawarra and Sydney and this work will improve safety for all road users,” Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra Gareth Ward said.
“The completion of this work will ensure Bulli Pass can continue to function as an important link for the Illawarra in the long term.”
As well as spending $5 million on the fence, the NSW government invested $130,000 to improve the hairpin bend on the pass.
“The safety improvements included upgrading signage, widening the road shoulder, adjustments to the safety barrier and line marking to improve safety for all road users, particularly motorcyclists,” a Roads and Maritime Services spokeswoman said.
Mr Ward praised the efforts of the workers on Bulli Pass, which allowed it to be opened a week ahead of schedule.
Bulli Pass closed for the second time since last year on August 28 with work initially expected to go for 10 weeks and reopen again on Friday, November 3.
The second closure of the pass allowed work to continue on the installation of rock fall fencing.
Work on the first stage of rock fall fencing last year also finished early – with the pass reopening three days ahead of schedule.
