The man’s 60-year-old wife was behind the wheel when the car and caravan it was towing rolled over at Sutton Forest about 1.10pm.
The woman was trapped in the car for more than an hour and suffered abdominal injuries.
“She was released from the car at 2.15pm and taken to Liverpool Hospital by road ambulance,” a NSW Ambulance spokesperson said.
Her 63-year-old husband, a passenger in the car, escaped without injury.
He told the Southern Highland News he and his wife were “lucky to be alive”.
“I don’t know how we survived,” he said.
It’s understood the couple was headed to Yass.
Bowral Police Inspector John Klepczerak said increasing road safety was a priority along the Hume Highway.
“An ongoing challenge for police is road safety on the Hume Highway,” he said.
“Due to a large volume of trucks and cars together with the attitude of some drivers, it’s a priority for police that everyone travels safely.
“If you see someone driving in an unacceptable manner police are happy to speak with you.”
Investigations into the cause of the crash are still being investigated.
