Luke from Leisure Coast Tackle at Corrimal reported yet another cracking few days last weekend which saw not only superb weather but even better fishing with heaps of scales flying around the cleaning tables.
Kingfish have been turning it on over the last couple of weeks with some terrific captures, especially last weekend with quite a few guys finding some solid legal fish locally, both from the boats and on shore.
Fish to 15 kilograms were taken from around the Port Islands by slow trolling live slimy mackerel and squid for baits. It was the same old story of plenty of hook-ups but not many landed owing to their size and shallow water that gave the kings a very unfair advantage.
There were a couple of notable land-based kingie captures as well with a couple of solid fish that came ashore around Bass Point as well as up on the northern platforms under Sea Cliff Bridge.
There were also plenty of pan-sized snapper between 1kg and 2kg that came in from the deeper drifts such as Bandit and Wollongong reefs but the bigger reds played hide and seek very successfully.
There were still plenty of big pigfish and mowies around the deeper reefs that offered some compensation for the lack of reddies and these are always a welcome by-catch.
Off the rocks, there were some excellent fish that came out of the washes with some stud bream and drummer being caught as well as some big black spotted goat fish.
Beaches continue to be consistent for bream and whiting and flathead with the usual run of nice-sized salmon and tailor.
