Erin Ford and Shantelle Morris have been voted winners for their Melbourne Cup Day outfits entered into the Fashions on the Field at Kembla Grange.
Ms Ford topped the Mercury web poll with votes after also being the judged best on show at the Illawarra Turf Club for her Victoria Kennedy black headpiece, black leather gloves and yellow 1950’s-cut dress she had designed herself.
Runner-up Ms Morriss, a previous winner of the People’s Choice, looked fresh and funky with a horse-shaped blue clutch, matching horse-printed navy and mustard blouse, a mustard full skirt and fascinator to match.
The pair have won vouchers for four people to enjoy lunch and beverages in Kembla Grange Racecourse’s Members Dining Room valued at $500 each.
Voting has now closed. Winners of the voucher for four people to enjoy lunch and beverages in Kembla Grange Racecourse’s Members Dining Room valued at $500 will be announced shortly.
Kembla Grange Fashions on the Field
Every year there is a focus on the women at Kembla Grange on Melbourne Cup Day but you can’t forget about the blokes.
Steelworker Grant Armstrong, 51, was given the sash for best dressed man in Fashions On The Field because of his “dapper traditional race attire”.
Tuesday was the first time in the competition for the Dapto resident, who wanted to tick another item off the bucket list he created when he turned half a century.
After much Googling prior to race day, Mr Armstrong settled on an Akubra top hat, a pocket square matching his tie and a yellow rose on his lapel - the official flower of the Melbourne Cup.
“I think I’m going to cop a bit [of flack],” he said. “But I did go all out.”
Erin Ford beat 20 other stylish women for the Best Dressed sash for her Victoria Kennedy black headpiece and yellow 1950’s-cut dress she had designed herself.
Rae Studdert was awarded Best Millinery for a cream and black fascinator created by Mount Isa label Millinery By Mel.
