The Illawarra Light Railway Museum Society at Albion Park Rail will be hosting a ‘Train Day for Kids’ on Sunday, November 26.
Society treasurer Brad Johns said the star of the day will be ‘Burra’, a steam locomotive that worked at the former Corrimal Colliery hailing coal.
‘Burra’ started operating at Corrimal on November 26, 1923 until the early 1960’s, when it was retired. It has now been restored at the museum.
Mr Johns said steam train rides with ‘Burra’ and ‘Kiama’, as well as diesel train rides with ‘Seymour’ and miniature train rides with ‘Strathalbyn’ will be operating throughout the day.
There will also be a fire engine and historical farm machinery on display.
“You also can look at the 1890 Yallah Station building and the 1915 Otford signal box, or learn about the museum history in the Ken McCarthy Museum Building,” Mr Johns said.
“Take a trip back in time and return to those grand old days of railways and enjoy the museum, as it is operated by hard-working volunteers.
“The theme of the day is for kids to enjoy those good old days of railways.”
Train rides run from 10am to 3pm. Fees apply; adults unlimited rides and entry $15, child/concession unlimited rides and entry $10, and nil train rides $5 entry.
