The rating recognises KU Wombarra’s commitment to providing high quality early childhood education, and the strong relationships that exist between the preschool’s children, families, educators and the local community.
‘’The program at KU Wombarra has a strong focus on sustainability,’’ director Fiona Harris said.
‘’Children are encouraged to learn about the world around them as they plant seeds in our vegetable garden, compost our fruit and vegetable scraps and feed our worm farm.
‘’We have a commitment to reducing, reusing and recycling and children are involved in collecting materials from home to add to our collage bin for creating with later.’’
Ms Harris added the preschool also takes part in regular excursions to the beach, providing children with the opportunity to connect, engage and learn beyond the physical boundaries of the preschool.
‘’We have a Nature Play program called Beach Friends – Marrang Gamarada,’’ she said.
‘’This involves visiting Wombarra Beach on a weekly basis with a small group of children and educators. We learn about the tide and the changing nature of the sea shore. We also explore the rock pools and tide lines, gradually building a working knowledge of our coastline and the creatures who live here.’’
