Movember is a family affair for the Chamberlain men of Shellharbour who have raised almost a quarter of a million dollars for the cause.
Father Allan and his three sons Dane, Corey and Beau started fundraising – and moustache growing – six years ago after being inspired by their mother Shannon’s fundraisers for breast cancer.
They’ve raised $236,000 in that time for the global charity focused on raising funds and awareness for men’s health issues including prostate and testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention.
This year they’re campaigning harder – planning 10 events including a hot rod show, trivia night and fitness challenge – in an effort to raise $100,000 in 2017 alone.
‘’This year’s been tough – with four of our close friends taking their own lives – and it’s only made us more focused on raising funds for vital prevention strategies,’’ Dane Chamberlain, a youth worker, said.
‘’Generally men find it hard to talk about mental or physical health issues, but Movember is a great way to start a conversation that may end up saving someone’s life.’’
The four men captain their own teams, and have a friendly competition to raise the most funds – and the best Mo. For details or to donate visit Movember.com
