Friday marked a big pay day for Gina Kalabishis, awarded $20,000 in Australia’s only still life painting prize, the Eutick Memorial Still Life Award at Wollongong’s Project Contemporary Artspace.

Nick Cave and Else Torp were the inspiration behind the floating flowers image titled “Passing Pulpit Rock - Distant Sky” which was judged best in show.

Now in it’s 11th year, EMSLA was relocated to the Illawarra from Coffs Harbour, closer to it’s beneficiary Dr Mal Eutick.

Fourteen Illawarra artists were among the 74 finalists, selected from more than 500 entries. The main criteria for judges being “excellence in any field of still life as long as it’s a painting”.
