Police have been told a man pulled up in front of a property in Malcolm Avenue, Cringila, just after 9pm Thursday.
He pulled a gun on a 37-year-old man before driving away.
A short time later, the man is believed to have confronted a group of people in Campbell Street, Woonona, while armed with a firearm.
Police from Lake Illawarra and Wollongong Local Area Commands have launched an investigation.
No one was injured in either encounter.
It is believed all parties are known to each other.
