Two men have been arrested after a carjacking at Picton sparked a police pursuit through Wollongong on Monday morning.
Police allege the men, who were arrested in Figtree, have been involved in a number of armed robberies, and aggravated break and enters across Griffith, Cootamundra, Wagga Wagga, and The Hume police commands for the last three days.
In one incident, a woman was hit in the stomach with the end of a firearm during an aggravated break and enter at Yanco.
Police further alleged two men have been travelling throughout the state’s south in a number of different stolen cars.
About 10pm on Sunday, police attempted to stop the men who were travelling in a stolen Nissan Patrol utility on the Hume Motorway at Mittagong.
The stolen Nissan did not stop and police initiated a pursuit just south of Bargo. About 10.30pm, the stolen Nissan rammed a marked police car at Colo Vale.
The stolen Nissan managed to drive a short distance before the two men ran into nearby bushland.
A woman who was also travelling in the car was arrested and is assisting police with their enquiries at Bowral Police Station.
No officers were injured during the incident but the police car sustained substantial damage.
On Monday morning, a carjacking sparked a police pursuit through Picton and Wollongong.
About 10.20am, a stolen Mitsubishi Outlander was seen at Picton. The car mounted the kerb and ran over an electrical sub-station causing a loss of power in the area.
Police were waved down by a woman in the car park of a shopping centre on Colden Street, Picton.
A 41-year-old woman and her elderly parents, aged 80 and 84, had allegedly been confronted by two men and removed from their Subaru Impreza before the two men fled in the car.
The 84-year-old man was treated for shock and taken to Bowral Hospital as a precaution.
The stolen Mitsubishi was recovered and seized for forensic examination.
The car was tracked by Polair and, just after 11am, two men were seen running from a stolen vehicle at Figtree.
Following a foot pursuit, two men, aged 24 and 26, were arrested in a canal nearby.
Both men were taken to Wollongong Police Station and are assisting police with their enquiries.
