Studholme’s side has struggled for consistency this season and currently sit in fourth place with three wins and two losses. However, after last week’s victory over University, they have a chance to record back to back wins for the first time when they face Wests over the next two weeks.
Wests currently sit at the bottom of the competition ladder, having failed to win a match this season, but Studholme said his team will not be treating their opponents lightly.
“We’re fairly confident heading into Saturday.” Studholme said. “However, we can’t take Wests lightly, they’ve had a few good players come back from Sydney.
Studholme identified the large number of new players in this year’s team as the source of his side’s inconsistency, however he’s confident they are making progress.
“We’re slowly coming together as a team. We’ve had a lot of new faces, but we’re coming to understand each other’s games. We just need to be patient, it’ll click eventually.”
In a major loss, leading wicket taker Sam Mutch will miss Saturday’s game. Studholme acknowledges the magnitude of the loss, but he sees it as the perfect opportunity for the remaining bowlers to shine.
“It’s a pretty big loss, but in his absence it’s a good opportunity for other bowlers, including Joel Gray, to step up. I believe we’ve got the bowlers there, we just need to be more consistent.”
