Windang edged out St Johns Park and Ballina in the sectional round of the State Finals at Terrigal BC, before beating New Lambton 45-31 in the semi-finals.
The final against Kempsey/Macleay RSL was the closest state decider in the four grades and went to an extra end, with Windang winning by a shot.
“The extra end was nerve-wracking,’’ Windang skip Sue Tyrrell said.
“As soon as it was over the emotion spilled out.
“There was tears, relief and pride that we’d won it.’’
This year Illawarra had three District state finalists, after Dapto Citizens clinched Grade 1 and Dapto won the Grade 2 District title.
NSW Womens Bowls president Maryann Parcell and Illawarra District Womens president Dawn Driscoll were special guests at Windang’ flag unfurling ceremony.
‘’The ladies should be mighty proud of their performance,’’ Parcell said.
