This week saw annual Christmas tree lit up in the Crown Street Mall as well as the launch of Wollongong City Council’s annual Giving Tree appeal. It kicks off more than a month of festivities in Wollongong’s city centre.
This includes Santa and his elves arriving for photographs with little fans and pets; the annual Bikers Toy Run on December 2; piano maestros serenading the public at lunchtimes from an upright piano in the mall; community choirs performing on the stage on Thursdays in December and a community carols on December 20.
Wollongong city centre activation manager Sofia Gibson was the only city outside of Melbourne and Sydney to have a series of animated Christmas windows.
Ms Gibson also said planning for Christmas festivities is a 12 month process with ideas being thrown around for the following year once December 25 has been.
