The 10-year-old impressed on the opening day of the competition, winning a fiercely competitive semifinal to qualify for Sunday’s final.
Short claimed the semifinal with a score of 16.5, just ahead of Port Macquarie’s Imojen Enfield, 14.34.
Short delivered another strong performance in the final, ultimately finishing third behind winner Leila Salt, of Boomerang Beach, and Enfield, who finished second.
The goofy footer has been surfing since she was four years old and already boasts a sponsorship with Roxy along with her 11-year-old sister Zahlia.
The boy’s event was won by Hughie Vaughan, with Mateus Bersot and Harry O’Brien finishing in the minor placings.
Vaughan dominated the event from start to finish, winning every heat on the way to the victory.
