Illawarra businesses have been recruiting additional staff for the busy Christmas period in recent weeks as shopping centres begin to prepare for the seasonal rush.

Many of the jobs have been created in new retail outlets in Wollongong Central’s new-look Gateway Centre where David Jones, TK Maxx, Swarovski, Charli & Kate and Another Burger Joint have also said they are likely to put on more casuals positions in the coming weeks.
“We will definitely be taking on two to three Christmas casuals,” Swarovski store manager Raj Patel said.
That has coincided with an increase in job ads for supermarkets and other retail outlets in the region.
The summer increase in casual work has also been bolstered by new attractions such as Waliscags Water Worx at Dapto Showground which has just put on 80 people for 12 weeks of summer water action.
