The competition marks the first phase on the road to March’s state championships, with athletes looking to qualify for February’s Region Championships.
Five clubs, Bowral, Dapto, Norhtern Illawarra, Wollondilly and Wollongong City, will be represented at the competition, with around 300 children to compete over the two days. Hosts Wollongong City will have over 100 athletes representating the club and with many competing in up to six events, Tim Crinnion said the children wll be kept busy.
“Can be a big weekend, especially for the long distance runners.” Crinnion said. “But the sprinters also have heats and finals and there are relays, so it will keep the kids busy.”
The first three finishers in each event will automatically qualify for the Region Championships.
