Constable was the backbone of the Keira innings, scoring 81 as his side reached a total of 7/251 in 50 overs. He then returned to take two key wickets with the ball as Corrimal were held to 9/220.

Captain Kyle Connor praised Constable for the way he crafted his innings throughout the duration of the 50 overs.

“He had an outstanding performance.” Connor said. “He batted extremely well, took his time and paced himsellf, then with wickets in hand accelerated from the second drinks break. It was a quality, chanceless innings. 

“With the ball, he played a good roll on a tough pitch. He bowled extremely accurately and got a couple of key wickets at crucial times in the innings.”

Keira are the only remaining unbeaten side in the competition, but Connor feels the team still has plenty of room to improve as the competition approaches the Twenty20 block.

“We’ve still got room for improvement. We need to get to training and keep working on our fielding. Our batting was good yesterday, but we still need to develop in the field.

“It’s a very even competition, so we’ve got to keep pushing forward and keep improving our game. If we stagnate we’ll find ourselves on the end of a couple of losses.”

Nipping close on Keira’s heels are second placed Helensburgh, who recorded a dominant victory over Dapto on Saturday.

The Tigers were bowled out for 243 in 49.4 overs, with Lyndon James top scoring with 48. The total proved to be more than enough, however, as Helensburgh bowled Dapto out for 112. Captain Mitch McCrae was pleased with the way all eleven players contributed to the victory.

“We bowled the best we’ve bowled all season. We haven‘t been starting well with the new ball, but yesterday we did. Luke [Falkiner] and Tim [Lloyd] did a brilliant job with the new ball and laid the platform for the innings.

“It’s pretty rare in cricket that all eleven players contribute in the one match, but [on Saturday]  that’s what happened, and it was good to see everyone chipping in with runs or wickets or catches.”

Both Wollongong and Balgownie also ensured they remained close to Keira on the competition ladder, recording victories over Wests and Northern Districts, respectively.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Wests were bowled out by Wollongong for 159 in 37.2 overs. Tyson Barrett top scored for Wests, scoring 70 not out while David Wood was the pick of the Wollongong bowlers, finishing with figures of 3/41 off 10 overs.

Bowling first, Balgownie were able to restrict Northern Districts to 9/215 off 50 overs, with Luke McGregor taking four wickets. An unbeaten 83 by Maciu Gauna allowed Bally to comfortably chasing down the total. Balgownie ultimately recorded a five wicket victory, reaching the total in 39.5 overs.
