Not often has the Federal Liberal Leader been seen in the neck of our woods.
Migaloo the White Whale has been seen more in our region than Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. Alas Migaloo probably has had more impact. We jest …… just a little.
Coming after a weekend of kissing babies on the campaign trail in Bennelong, Prime Minister Turnbull and his Energy Minister Josh Frydenberg toured the Port Kembla steelworks on Monday to spruik the benefits of the government’s national energy guarantee.
Shame it has taken him almost two years to find Port Kembla after not being seen when we really needed him during the fight to keep the steelworks alive.
Don’t get us wrong, we are glad he stopped in to say g’day.
However, maybe next time Prime Minister you can bring your cheque book and do something a little more proactive for the Illawarra than using it for a photo opportunity.
NEEDS A ‘PLEASE EXPLAIN’
It’s pretty hard to miss a bloke who is seven foot tall.
If we ever needed any proof Illawarra Hawks star AJ Ogilvy was being ignored by national basketball selectors we now have it.
The Hawks centre has been blatantly ignored for a spot in the national team despite being clearly one of the best performed centres in Australia over several seasons.
The latest example of the complete disdain came when a spot opened up for the Boomers due to injury before the World Cup qualifier in Adelaide on Monday night.
When Perth centre Angus Brandt went down with illness, rather than look to Ogilvy – the first obvious replacement – selectors opted for Lucas Walker.
The numbers simply don't stack up.
Ogilvy is fourth in the NBL this season for rebounds averaging 6.7 per game, Walker is 16th averaging 5.
He is also the league’s leading shot blocker at 1.9 per game, while Walker is nowhere to be seen.
In terms of scoring, Ogilvy is 23rd averaging 12.6 points per game while Walker is 32nd at 10.7.
It is clear Boomers coach Andrej Lemanis has a blind spot when it comes to the Hawks’ star centre and it is high time Basketball Australia actually explained what the issue is involving his selectoin.
