Athletes aged from six to seventeen have descended on Beaton Park for the South Coast – Highlands Zone Championships.
The children braved the warm temperatures as they attempted to qualify for February’s Region Championships.
A record 310 athletes attended the two-day competition and many impressive results were recorded, including 30 new Zone records.
Chelsy Wayne broke a 27-year-old record in the under 10 girls long jump, with a jump of 4.31 metres. She now holds Zone long jump records in the under eight, under nine and under ten age groups.
Chelsea Ezeoke of Wollongong City Little Athletics Club was also one of the stars of the meet. The Albion Park resident broke records in the under 12 girls 100m, 200m, 400m, shot put and junior girls relay.
