Your home, along with your family and friends, should form part of the solid network that supports your plans and your life story. It should help you get on, get up and get out into the world to start fulfilling your goals.
It’s where your life story starts afresh each day so even small frustrations with your surroundings begin to feel monumental when they hinder your daily movements around the house and yard.
Scope Home Access has been helping people reach their home environment goals for over 30 years.
Scope’s occupational therapists (OTs) and builders have also been working with NDIS participants since the NDIS trial sites began several years ago and have a great deal of experience in supporting participants through the often convoluted equipment and home modifications pathway.
Every person has their individual goals reflected in their NDIS plan.
Scope Home Access’ CEO, Anne Reeve says as an organisation Scope set out to create a one-stop-shop for NDIS participants to be able to access OT assessment and application for equipment and assistive technology or design, builder consultation and construction of home modifications.

Anne said, “The impact of barriers within the home environment plays a huge part in how people consider and design their NDIS goals and plans.
“It affects a wide range of goals for greater independence ranging from personal care to employment seeking.
“A well modified home environment can save hours in a person’s day to help them get ready to join social activities, attend study places, gain or keep employment.
“People also regularly identify home modifications in their NDIS plans to maintain a valued role within the family such as the preparation of family meals.
“The home environment also needs to be safe and sustainable for people with mobility issues to avoid injury to themselves, their family or more formal care through support workers who regularly come into the home.”
The NDIS process for an OT assessment for home modification, equipment or Assistance Technology (AT) applications starts at the initial meeting with your local area coordinator (LAC). Here, discussion around issues within your home and what you might need to support or enable the goals you have defined can take place.
Through the contact page on the Scope Home Access website, people can also request a copy of the ‘A Way to Stay’ home modification planning tool to put together thoughts and ideas, prior to or after their meeting with the LAC.
