A sincere thanks from me as CEO of Baseball Australia for hosting for the second year an ABL game this past Sunday between Canberra and Sydney.
To Destination Wollongong, Wollongong City Council, the two teams, umpires, officials, scorers, BA staff and the amazing volunteers and Northern Pirates Baseball - I owe you my thanks on behalf of all at Baseball Australia
I am more determined than ever to see this effort rewarded at some stage in the future with a Wollongong team in the ABL.
You summed up for me why regional Australia is so important, and if we can get the right backing locally we can make this another sporting success for the region.
Selfishly in my role, I know we would see great participation growth and more national team players and maybe MLB stars in the future.
Let's get cracking on this Wollongong - we can make this happen as we in baseball want you, don't wait to be invited into other national leagues like they are doing you a favour.
Come to the National League that wants you in its competition, the Australian Baseball League.
Cam Vale, Baseball Australia CEO
A SMALL TARGET
While the investigation into Don Burke is well warranted, he's a relatively small target.
I'm wondering how it is that those senior officers of the Australian Defence Force who raped and abused young men and women for decades have escaped the attention of investigative journalists.
The Defence Abuse Response Taskforce set up my Minister Stephen Smith in 2011 allowed some redress for victims with minor financial compensation but was a toothless tiger as far as putting the criminals responsible for the abuse before the courts.
They are still giggling at getting away with it all these years, many of whom have gone on to hold positions of great esteem within the 'establishment'.

STAFF AMAZING
A series of unfortunate health episodes have resulted in four admissions this year to either Wollongong or Port Kembla hospitals. the professionalism of all of the medical and support staff was marvelous.
Not only was their professionalism outstanding but everyone of them showed genuine compassion and concern for their patients.
We are too quick at times to be critical of our hospital system but my experience just confirms we are fortunate to have such a superb system when we need it.
Don Driscoll, Wollongong
ALL ABOUT MONEY?
After the Tonga versus England refereeing disaster initiated in the final seconds of a very exciting game, the rugby league officialdom want the final game played on home ground with an Australian referee.
Isn’t that a bit one-sided and embarrassing.
We don’t need the extra benefits.
The game could be played in NZ with a neutral referee.
Another unfair anomaly that has come to light during this world cup.
Is it always about money?

VOTING “NO”
I note the Liberal senator representing the Illawarra, Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, voted “NO” for the same sex marriage bill.

DENYING FREEDOMS
Dear oh dear.
Poor no voters.
All they wanted was the freedom to deny some other people their freedoms. So sad.
