United tickets at McKellar Park jumped from a general admission blanket price of $10 last season to $27 for a grandstand ticket at the gate this year.

Fairfax Media asked the club to clarify the reasons behind the massive price hike, but Canberra United chief executive Phil Brown declined to comment.

The second-placed Canberra has attracted more than 1000 fans to each of their first two home games and will clash against the Brisbane Roar at McKellar Park on Sunday.

It's understood fans were surprised when they arrived to Canberra's first home game of the season to find out about spike and an added mark up for buying tickets at the ground.

An adult general admission ticket costs $17 if purchased online, but the same ticket costs $22 if bought at the gate. A grandstand ticket is $27.

Children and concession tickets are $9 online but $12 at the gate and $17 under cover, while family passes for two adults and two children sell for $40. Children under 11 are are admitted into general admission for free.

The average ticket prices at the eight other W-League clubs are $5.30 for a child, $7.80 for concession, $12 for adults and $34.75 for a family.

Canberra are the only team in the competition not affiliated with an A-League club and player wages rose significantly this season following a landmark pay deal.

The W-League salary cap is $300,000 and clubs must contract at least 18 players at a base rate of $10,000 per season, which is covered by Football Federation Australia.

Canberra United have 21 players contracted which means if they use the entire salary cap their wages bill is $90,000 this season.

Despite the major increase, the price of attending W-League games in Canberra is still comparable with soccer's summer rivals the Capitals (basketball) and Cavalry (baseball).

United also get funding from the ACT government worth $125,000 per season over the next four years, as well as cash injections from sponsors.

The players are delivering on the field with three wins from the first four games of the year, and goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer will face her former club on Sunday.

The American import admitted she considered sledging her former teammates in the second v third battle, but decided to let her play do the talking.

"I was thinking what controversial comment could I make that would rile everyone up but I have this theory as a goalie that if you talk about someone like that it always comes back to bite you," Kopmeyer said.

"You always want to show well against former teammates and they'd feel the same way, they know a lot about me and will be using what they know to get the points.

"In this league if you have any knowledge which you can use as a leg up then you've got to use it."

Kopmeyer last played in the W-League two years ago and said the competition has dramatically improved over that time.

"The overall quality of players are more evenly distributed across the board, it's not just one or two teams, now every game know you have to show up and really play," Kopmeyer said

"There are no games in hand and it's such a short season so every game counts so much and that's exciting.

"Anybody can beat anybody in this league which we've seen the last couple of weeks, so you have to prepare as if you're playing the best or you're going to get caught sleeping."
