Jeff Penza’s vice-like grip on the Kembla jockeys premiership grew even stronger last weekend.
The defending champion has already built up a convincing 29 point lead at the top of the standings as the season edges closer to the halfway point.
Penza rode a winning double, with triumphs on Anthony and Edward Cummings trained Noble Truth and Godolphin’s Kennedy.
The premier provincial hoop also piloted three seconds on a wet afternoon at the Illawarra Turf Club.
He now sits well clear at the top, on 66 points for the season.
Mitchell Bell (37 points) and Keagan Latham (31 points) lead the chasing pack.
Apprentices Jean Van Overmeire and Brock Ryan sit level on 21 points in the young rider premiership while Nick Heywood (17 points) is close behind.
Top Kembla horsewoman Gwenda Markwell has maintained her advantage in the Kembla and overall trainers premierships.
